None of us will ever be the same after this. Maybe this sharing can help us all. Hold that thought, Alex. I’ll get back to you in a minute.

Kaleen, the photograph of you on October 9th is so powerful. First: Just look at the strength in your face. You have an expression that says, “Nope. This is NOT the way this is going to go down.” I would not tangle with you… ever. Second: Do you have any signs of age? Wrinkles of any sort? The rest of us out here; mothers, people facing stress and adversity show it in our face, but you don’t. (David – you are a fortunate man. Your wife is gorgeous!) Third: Is that a Boise State sweatshirt you’re wearing?

Alex, now that I’ve had a moment with your mom, let’s talk about that October 9th photo for a minute. It looks like you and I have the same taste in intravenous cocktails! It also looks like they left the cherry off of yours just like they did mine. I don’t know about you but I know I could have mainlined a little maraschino syrup! That would have made being in a coma a little sweeter.

The January 9th photo just speaks for itself! Both of you standing strong together and looking healthy and ready for the world. You guys are incredible! I’m just punting here, but I think all readers of this blog would agree with that emphatic statement. 2010 was a doozy, wasn’t it? I think you’re well within your rights to put that year to bed - never to be revisited! Good grief!

I got to meet my firefighters, too! One of them sent me an email after I had been released from the hospital just to check on me. My family felt we owed them so much so we made them a big roast beef dinner and took it down to the station one night. Those that were married had their wives there and it was one of the coolest evenings I’ve ever had. We spent a few hours talking, laughing and crying with each other. My kids got to put on all of the gear and even slide down the fire pole a couple of times! Thankfully there were no calls that night to interrupt our evening. One of them, the one my call affected the most, even came to my 40th birthday party. Talk about cool.

Just as those that serve us saved our lives, we in turn gave something to them – an education, which will help them in the future should they come upon a strike victim again. I love my firefighters, my paramedics, my ER doctors and nurses, and I’ll even share a little love for my rehab therapists –but just a little, tormentors! All of these people are amazing and will be “with” you forever. Know that you have touched them just as deeply.Larahttp://www.eustermann.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1544386531193723361.post-91478577689221459082011-01-10T09:17:54.850-08:002011-01-10T09:17:54.850-08:00The real question is why your family consistently ...The real question is why your family consistently defies the odds? I have only heard of stories like this in the movies! You guys should write a book!

On a serious note, I and my family have been following the story on this blog, (a friend told us about it) I am truly awe inspired.
