Welcome friends and family of Alex and Dane!

This Blog has been created by friends and family of Alex and Dane as they make their way down the road to recovery, after being struck by lightning 10/5/2010. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as this road will likely be a long one. Feel free to check back often for status updates on both Alex and Dane, and be sure and leave your well-wishes when you visit. The boys will be shown this blog when they are awake.

We sincerely Thank You for your concern and friendship. Alex and Dane will always remember the support of friends and family like you.

Three Months

I use to look forward to the 5th of the month (Pay Day) but now it represents the day that our worlds changed forever.  But for every bad thing that has happened there are 5 good things too. I'm a little freaked out every Monday night thinking "13 weeks ago....." and every time I do car pool in the mornings and drive by the High School, I think "this is where Alex and Dane lost their lives".  Then I think "this is where Alex and Dane got their lives back".  There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of all the people involved in saving the boys lives.  Thank you again.  Yesterday was an AMAZING day for Alex and us.  Alex went in for a check up at the hospital and visited all the staff in the Acute Rehab unit.  Those caring people gave Alex his Quality of Life back.  They taught him all his life skills and we are forever grateful to them.  Alex was SOOO happy to see everyone.  One of his favorite nurses was there yesterday, the whole time Alex "lived" there she wanted him to smile for her but he wouldn't (typical Teenage boy).  BUT yesterday she got to see him smile.  It was so fun to see him WALK into the Rehab Unit.  He said the halls looked a lot smaller now that he could walk and didn't have to use his wheel chair. :)  Alex has gotten treatments from Spero Therapy everyday this week and has had a great week.  He's feeling a lot better (but better to him is still about a 5 on the pain scale).  I'm proud of him and all that he has overcome.  Don't worry Dane, he's close on your heels of recovery.  Before we know it Alex will be "back to the grind".  Hugs - Kaleen aka Alex's mom

  1. Ok, imagine a little girl, her elbows close to her body and her little hands clapping rapidly in front of her chest. She's jumping up and down repeatedly about an inch off the ground. She's grinning from ear to ear! THAT'S ME!! Alright, I'm really 42 and am not getting any clearance off the ground! But it's how I feel!

Alex, look at you! You are towering over all of those nurses and therapists! (tee hee) Your smile is amazing! Do it often!!

  2. What fantastic news!!! It really will be the BEST year yet...I had tears of joy for Alex as I read this Kaleen! We are so proud of these boys and ALL they have accomplished, but they couldn't have done it without all of the family, friends and medical support they have surrounding them :):):)
Thank you God for answered prayers!
