Welcome friends and family of Alex and Dane!

This Blog has been created by friends and family of Alex and Dane as they make their way down the road to recovery, after being struck by lightning 10/5/2010. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as this road will likely be a long one. Feel free to check back often for status updates on both Alex and Dane, and be sure and leave your well-wishes when you visit. The boys will be shown this blog when they are awake.

We sincerely Thank You for your concern and friendship. Alex and Dane will always remember the support of friends and family like you.

17 Weeks Since Strike

A lot has changed in the past 17 weeks. Both boys have made such huge strides and are continuing to make progress.  Now that Alex is out and about in the town he has been able to talk to and hear stories from people that witnessed the Strike October 5th.  To hear their story reminds us everyday that them being alive is truly a miracle.  Prayers were being answered then and are continuing to be answered now.
Alex's schedule has slowed down a bit but he is still very busy with appointments this week he has 10.  He's still not back to school but still on target to graduate in May with his Senior class.  Hopefully if he can continue to get his balance and get some movement in his hands, he can go back to school the last semester - he needs to be able to have some Senior Fun!

  1. Doesn't it feel good to be out and about?! I don't think there is anything better than regaining your mobility and independence. It feels good knowing you continue to get those important pieces of your life back.

I write this from my bed, from first hand experience of loss of independence. My stupid, idiotic muscles that surround my spine have chosen to constrict and won't let go. The pain is crazy-insane!! After a trip to the hospital and several prescriptions later I'm back at home and AGAIN reliant upon my family to do everything for me. During one of my drug induced naps I had a dream about you, Alex. I was meeting you for the first time. I was hunched over and still broken, but you were standing tall, dressed in a dark suit and a beautifully pressed white on white striped dress shirt with french cuffs. You were wearing diamond cuff links. I noticed them when you outstretched your hand to shake my own. You grasped my hand in yours and with a firm grip introduced yourself. I looked up at you and noticed a perfect GQ hair cut. The first words out of my mouth weren't, "I'm pleased to meet you." or "Hi, I'm Lara." or even "Whoa! You look tremendous in that suit!". They were, "WHY DID YOU CUT YOUR HAIR?!" How rude. (I hate drugs.)

Senior Fun is an absolute necessity! I hope your parents post pictures of all your shenanigans. Last year, here in Boise, the seniors decided to decorate the school with underwear. Every tree branch had some brand of bra or boxer shorts hanging from it. Apparently it was pretty funny to see the staff pulling g-strings and tighty-whities from the trees! I'm sure Snow Canyon High School seniors are much more mature than Boise High hooligans, but photos would be appreciated nonetheless.

Thank you for the update. Love to all of you guys!

  3. What a miracle! Why do bad things happen to good people? It's a puzzle, but only the Lord could get you through something like this! I thank HIM for showing us HIS power and I pray your recoveries continue to complete health. What a witness you could be.
