Welcome friends and family of Alex and Dane!

This Blog has been created by friends and family of Alex and Dane as they make their way down the road to recovery, after being struck by lightning 10/5/2010. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as this road will likely be a long one. Feel free to check back often for status updates on both Alex and Dane, and be sure and leave your well-wishes when you visit. The boys will be shown this blog when they are awake.

We sincerely Thank You for your concern and friendship. Alex and Dane will always remember the support of friends and family like you.

Alex Saturday 10-9-10

Not sure where to begin.  It was a rough 24 hours for Alex Thur-Fri night.  He finally fell asleep Friday night just after 9pm - hes been sleeping ever since.  YEA!!  He needs his rest.  He hated having the huge oxygen mask on and kept asking me to take it off, well his wish was granted Friday night.  He wore a smaller mask until Saturday - now he only has an oxygen tube under his nose.  Hes much happier about that.  His hands are still restrained because they dont want him to rub his burns and also escape from the bed.  He hasnt talked much but when he does he still asks for my help to "get out of here" but he dosnt try as much to escape.    Dane was wheeled into Alex's room this afternoon.  It was amazing to see them together!!!!!! Dane talked to Alex - Alex tried to talk back but isnt able to speak much.  He tried SO hard to open his eyes to see Dane, but didnt quit make it.  But he knew Dane was there.  When Dane left, Alex tried to get out of bed, I think he thought Dane was leaving so he too should be able to go. Then he spoke - he said "I need to start walking"  I asked where he was going to walk to and he said "Home".
A feeding tube was placed in him this evening - we asked them if they could blend a Crunch Wrap Supreme for him.  No luck! More tests will be run tomorrow morning.  The care here at UMC has been wonderful.  Alex has a great Doctor and amazing Nurses that tend to him.  I love reading all your posts to Alex.  He can hear me and others talking to him.  Thanks for the love and support - most importantly thanks for the Prayers.  They are being heard and answered. (if this dosnt make sense its because Ive slept less than 12 hours since Tuesday)

  7. Thanks for the updates! I things go better for Alex. It is great to hear about their progress. I have a friend here who own two restaurants and we were talking about picking a day next week when he would donate part of his profits to Dane and Alex. There would be one day for each of the restaurants. He would like to talk to you about it, I guess to talk about some of the logistics of those days. I will give you my email , so you can email me info and so we can get these days set up. sballantyne@scmiddle.org

  11. my son almost 18 when wrecked his moto cross bike (now 20) broke his back and dislocated several ribs. it was touch and go for a week weather he would even walk again. I know the prayers helped so much. I still observe Jake in awe of how he pulled thru and faught every day thru the pain and fear of what tomorrow would bring. Alex, you come from amazing stock and its very obvious you are a fighter, dont loose the humor, it too helps get you thru rough days. oh, and chick do dig scars, my son has way too many of them calling. Be strong, we are all praying for all of you and will continue to thru your journey. c-Lea (for lea family)

  12. Chris and Leslie, I am sorry you haven't heard from me in person. I haven't been able to get a phone call through. Please know that I am heartbroken that you all have had to endure this tragedy without more of your family at your side. You, Dane and Alex, have been in my heart and prayers. I will visit you when Dane returns home.
    God speed!

  18. Best Wishes for a speedy recovery. Many thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Six years ago, my 24 year old son, an electrical lineman, had 70,000 volts of electricty go through him. According to doctors at the University of Utah burn center, there was no reason for him to be alive. When I arrived there a few hours after the accident, I was met at the elevator doors by my son. After a few months of burn healing and surgeries on his burns, he returned to work. He is a very active and busy husband and father. All is Well!! I know that Our Father in Heaven has a plan for each of us. It was not my son's time to go, nor was it time for Dane and Alex. I know that He has something for each of you to accomplish. My thoughts and prayers are with you, as are those of many, many others. I am so glad to hear that you are both improving and look forward to more positive reports.

  20. Alex and Dane's families: When the news reported the boys' accident, it made me gut sick! What a horrible thing to have happen to anyone - let alone your children. As parents, you've had to find the strength and will to function through their recovery. You've had to be strong for them as well as for each other. The Lord has definately blessed you with these tender mercies. Our family will continue to pray for your boy's, your families and all those who care for them. You have fine young men!! Thanks for keeping us all posted :) A mom in West Jordan.
