Home Away From Home - Alex Saturday

Alex is getting his first bath right now.  He's had his hair washed and sponged off several times, but this time its  the real deal.  * (thought I would clarify what a "bath" means here for him....Its not a warm jacuzzi tub filled with bubbles surrounded by candles....He was moved onto a metal bed/table that was covered in plastic, wheeled down to another room and washed off "car wash style"  it was all done in love, nothing I would ever want to experience )   His burns, grafts and doner site are healing so well, they decided it was time to wash him.  Yesterday his Physical Therapist said you are looking really good especially with what happened to you, Alex said "you should see how well my friend is doing and he took a head shot"  (thats for all you Gamers out there).  I LOVE all the Comments  - Thanks SOOOO much for them,  I read each one to Alex.  They make me/us smile :)  He liked hearing about his Cross Country Team and their successes.  He can't wait to see you Coach.

  1. Hey Alex. I've been meaning to write you but had no idea what to say. I'm just glad that things are sounding like they are getting better every day. You've been in our family's thoughts and prayers. It's difficult being at the college where not very many people know you and you can't really to talk to anyone else about it. But you are strong and always have been. I can't wait to see you back home, on your feet, and back at school. I know it won't be too long. You're the man.

  2. Alex,
We know a few things about you like your quick wit and intelligent sense of humor but the conversation at this point in time needs to turn SERIOUS. There is something that we are all wondering about.....just what exactly is your superhero power and what must we call you once you emerge from the hospital? The Chaco trail gang has a few wagers going.....there is The Blue Bolt vs. Flash vs. Thor. The Blue Bolt is old school (1940's) and so is Flash. The smart money is on Thor given your rugged good looks and flowing blond hair that is mercifully still intact...the debate rages awaiting your appearance....

  3. When you get back I will have a big bag of gummy worms we can eat after going for a run. Stay strong, and do what the Doctor says too. -Tommy

  4. Alex,
I remember the "human car wash". Although it sounds mortifying to the general public - to us super struck humans it's one of the perks of hospital living! There's nothing like emerging from the shower room covered in heated blankets and smelling like soap for the first time!
    AWESOME! It's all good.

  6. Alex, I'm so impressed with your progress. You have overcome so much. You and Dane are the first two people I actually know who have been struck by ligtning and lived to tell about. I don't even know anyone who has been struck by lightning at all. You guys have celebrity status as far as I'm concerned. I want you and Dane to sign my t-shirt when you get home. Now, when I run into people at church, it's no longer, "How are you doing?" It's, "How are Alex and Dane doing? What's the latest?" Everyone wants to know how you're doing. And random people walk up to me and say, "I didn't get to go to the concert, but this is for Alex and Dane." Then they hand me money, which I promptly take to the school for deposit. You guys picked a heck of a way to bring this community together. But it worked!

  7. A bunch of friends and I went to Iggy's last night. None of us know you guys personally but have been touched by your story. We admire you boys strength and determination. We admire your families as well. Know that both of you boys and your families have been in all of our prayers. Stay strong, continue to make progress and hope to see you in the community soon.
