Welcome friends and family of Alex and Dane!

This Blog has been created by friends and family of Alex and Dane as they make their way down the road to recovery, after being struck by lightning 10/5/2010. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as this road will likely be a long one. Feel free to check back often for status updates on both Alex and Dane, and be sure and leave your well-wishes when you visit. The boys will be shown this blog when they are awake.

We sincerely Thank You for your concern and friendship. Alex and Dane will always remember the support of friends and family like you.

October 9, 2010

Update on Dane - Dane had an MRI completed yesterday which was normal.  His sedation was slowly weaned off until he was fully awake.  Once awake enough, he was attempting to write messages, mouth words...basically wanting to know when they would take the tube out of his mouth.  The tube was removed and he was completely coherent, laughing and joking. We told him that he and Alex had been hit by lightening....he just chuckled.  His night was a little more eventful with some confusion and debate (on Dane's part) about what he needed or didn't need.  At one point he did say that he wants this challenge to be over.  We are pretty sure he's playing too many video games.  His other questions during the night...."what were my presenting symptoms?"   In the typical Dane fashion he is trying to analyze what is going on!  We, as his family, are extremely appreciative of all that has been done for the boys.  Without the love and support of all of you, this journey would be much more difficult.  Don't be surprised if Dane returns to school VERY quickly.  He is doing fabulous, and other than a few small burns on his feet, and a very cool streak of missing hair (possibly in the shape of a lightening bolt) he is the same Dane we all know and love.  Posted by Chris and Rockie

  3. Dane! its great to know you are ok and may be back in school soon, I have made some great progress on our case but I'm going to need a debate partner at some point. Its crazy whats going on at school right now, everyone is raising money and being really supportive. My life has been pretty boring without you two to argue with. anyway good luck with recovering and I hope to see you soon.

  8. I'm so amazed, these 2 young men are such fighters. I've been going through a tough time lately, and this whole incident has made me realize things could be so much worse. I'm just about to head over to the school on my lunch break and make a donation, i just wish i could give more.

These guys are the true definition of warriors.

  18. "It is, on some occasions, destiny that a person will suddenly experience a large tip in the balance of the universe. A personal tradgedy so great, it seems that no good will ever come again in their life.In the wake of such tradgedy, it is true of the laws of balance and momentum, that the scale must tip equally to the opposite side. Though things may seem hopeless now, fear not the future, the odds are in your favor." -John Micheal Pilgrim
